Project Brief
Design a Japanese-inspired Zen garden and art installation is nestled beneath a curved staircase.
Our Design Approach
Inspired by the ‘wabi-sabi’ philosophy - the quiet acceptance of transience and imperfection, and appreciation of beauty that is imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete - this design unfolds in series of changing moments and perspective, much like the passing of the seasons, inviting reflection, contemplation and a deeper connection with nature.

Collaboration is a philosophy and ethos we bring to our projects to create successful, bespoke outcomes. Each stone was hand‑selected from the stone yard and transported to Peter Axford’s [Coolabah Infrastructure] workshop in Launching Place, where it was carved before being installed on-site. Due to the organic nature of the project, this process allowed us to involve the client directly and encourage their participation in the design process and in the selection of each piece.
